The Future of UFO research

November 6, 2012

The Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP), an organization involved in UFO research, affirmed that the occurrence of “significant UFO events” has dropped notably over the past 2 decades. In addition, they said that this trend  has become so extreme that the UFO debate now focuses on only a handful of events, including claims that flying saucer crashed at Roswell in New Mexico in the 1940’s.

The same organization noted too a change in the nature of reported sightings and added that over the past 30 years classical sightings have been largely displaced by claims of UFO abductions.

A comparison has been made. While in 1972 UFO crashes were unknown or disregarded, in 2012 they effectively dominate the subject.  Assap added that the subject become influenced by conspiracy theories whose implications take ufology into extreme and alarming directions.

By contrast, Nick Pope told the Sunday Telegraph that there is a future for the subject. He stated that “There’s a quantity versus quality issue here”.

Channel 4 News Science Editor, Tom Clarke, explains why UFO watchers should not give up hope just yet.

It is perhaps inevitable that ‘traditional’ UFO enthusiasts would have to abandon the faith. The little green men in flying saucers and unexplained lights in the sky just have not stood up to scrutiny. The same advances in science and technology that made them seem plausible have failed to confirm they exist.

But to me it seems a shame that the UFO hunters may be giving up at a time when we are closer than ever to finding life in other worlds.

Rather than hearing cries from distant aliens, radio telescopes found equally incredible messages from beaming pulsars and the faint echoes of the big bang itself.

In 1992 the idea of planets beyond our solar system – so called extrasolar planets – was purely theoretical. But now astronomers are now finding real lost worlds almost everywhere they look. As of the beginning of this week 843 planets in 665 planetary systems have been discovered… and counting.

Few of these planets are suitable for life as we know it, but many are close. Just last month an Earth-sized planet was discovered orbiting our nearest neighbouring star Alpha Centuri. And statistically, the odds of a world similar to ours aren’t bad at all.

Based on data from NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler telescope there could be 500 million Earth-like planets in our galaxy alone.

Estimates of the number of galaxies in the universe vary quite a bit, but we are talking hundreds of billions – you get the general idea. What’s more, the chemicals that make up the likely building-blocks of carbon-based life are being found in the furthest reaches of space.

This summer, Danish scientists discovered sugar molecules just floating in space around a star 400 light years away. And now too, we have unprecedented power to reach out and find life directly.

This week the Mars curiosity rover began the rather odd task of sniffing for methane on the surface of Mars. Detecting it could indicate the presence of belching bacterial life-forms within the soil.

So far, not a whiff. But the truth is out there.

So, what is your opinion about this subject?

MUFON Major Announcements

August 6, 2012

During the last MUFON Symposium, were made two major announcements!

First one was that the research papers of Leonard Stringfield, an Ufologist and UFO crash investigator,  have been donated to MUFON. Stringfields work encompassed sixty volumes of meticulous UFO research over 30 years.

The second announcement was made by Harry Drew who took the podium in Covington, Ky., explaining he is convinced he has located two sites where alien craft landed or crashed in 1953, in Kingman, Arizona.

According to Drew, military personnel quickly retrieved and cleaned up the wreckage. The archaeologist and historian apparently included photos of the sites in his presentation, as well as presented information contradicting past accounts of the case and alleged crashes.

This announcement contradicts the original information presented by Raymond Fowler who first broke the details in 1973, and now claims that his information was from Fritz Werner, later identified to be Arthur Stansel.

In 1973, Stansel/Werner provided Fowler with an alleged crashed UFO event in Kingman, Arizona two decades earlier. Right below you can check his statement.

Fowler checked the integrity of Stansel and everyone who knew him said that he was a man of considerable integrity and scientific ability.

Another story supporting the 1953 crash near Kingman came to UFO researcher Leonard Stringfield in 1977. A man who was in the National Guard at Wright Patterson claimed that he was witness to a delivery from a “crash site in Arizona in 1953.

We’re  looking forward for new information from Harry Drew with some additional credible information if this case is going to be considered a landmark UFO case. On one of my latest posts, I’ve announced the MUFON 2012 Symposium.

MUFON Symposium is one of the largest annual gatherings of UFO enthusiasts bringing together participants who claim to have had encounters with alien life, those who believe their stories and those who simply are curious.

UFO sightings during 2012 Olympic Games?

July 27, 2012

Starting today and continuing to the next days, everyone in every country will have their eyes on 2012 Olympic Games! Some people because of sports, others because of possible UFO sightings!

On 7th of June the Daily Mail published an article saying that Nick Pope, one of the UK’s top UFO experts, said mass summer events would be a prime time for crafts from otherworlds to present themselves to mankind.

Here you have some of his statements:

‘With the summer of mass events we are all on high alert for terrorism. But we must also cast our eyes further afield and be prepared for even the most seemingly unfathomable.’

‘If aliens have studied our psychology, they may choose to appear in our skies on a significant date – the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games is one date being widely circulated by conspiracy groups.’

‘On their arrival it is difficult to say what they would do: explore, help or destroy. Our resources make us quite a special threat.’

Aliens may possess weapons or advanced technology we’ve no idea of. Aliens may have invisibility, a death ray, teleportation, force fields and other things we can’t even guess at.’

Nick Pope

What do you think about his statements? Do you really believe that aliens may appear on next days? And that they can attack us?

True or not, there are gambling houses receiving bets for UFO sightings during the opening ceremony, like the William Hill Gambling House that is offering 1,000-to-1 odds that a flying saucer is spotted over Olympic Stadium during today’s opening ceremony!

So, if you are in London keep an eye on the skies for saucers!

And let me know what you think!

How UFOaholic started?

July 22, 2012

Some people have been questioning about how the idea of developing UFOaholic came up.

This way I’ve decided to ask  our developer to write to you guys a message explaining all about it.

Check it out what he told:

Hello everyone,

My name is António and I am currently working as a mobile developer at Ubiwhere.

UFOaholic was my first project in the company. The idea came from a friend of mine whose hobby is to investigate UFO sightings that appear around the world everyday. He explained me that there were daily reports of these sightings and that there were several UFO communities where anyone could send information regarding their sightings. They would only need to send a description, the approximate location and with some luck a video or a photograph of the event. The problem with this is that people would have to write this on a paper and carry a camera, so that they could send this later to the forums and websites of UFO communities.

Since nowadays almost everyone owns a smartphone that carries everywhere they go, I though it would be nice to have a mobile application that would make use of the smartphones potentialities (like Internet connection, GPS, Camera and Compass).

Before presenting this idea to my bosses I’ve done some research on the existing UFO communities and mobile applications on both Android and iOS platforms as I would have to discover in what way this application could help these people to record and share their sightings. The idea was to allow anyone interested in UFOs to check sightings reported all over the world.

It was taken special care on the application’s flow and design. The application would have to be simple, attractive and easy to use. For this matter there was a special team of designers helping me.

The application is available for iPhone only and we are currently promoting it all over the web in order to share knowledge and experiences about UFOs with all UFO communities, hunters and lovers. I know that are a lot of ways to report UFO sightings, but sometimes we don’t carry any camera and don’t have any witnesses with us to prove or share it. Furthermore, UFOaholic it’s handy, fast, easy and simple to use.

I really enjoyed developing this application and one of the things that surprised me more was the number of sightings that are reported in a single day. I would never imagine that they would be some many and I have to admit that it makes you think that they are really out there!

António Pinho

Thank you very much  for your message António!

UFO Sightings around the world

July 17, 2012

Hi there!

I’ve been doing some research about UFO sightings and I’d found a lot of records in different countries and cities around the world.

On MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) website, only today I found 17 different sightings, 4 of them of today.

Here you have the description for those:

I was outside and something told me to look up, and thats when I saw A Orange color with A red glow. I told my husband look up and his like what is that never seen anything like that before. Then it just disappeared.

Il, US

UFO hovering and morphing under dense rain clouds. Disk like, looked as though it was slowly rolling and flipping head over heels. Drifted away until clouds obscured view.
Definitely not a bird, plane or helicopter. Had a faint torsion field (for lack of better words) around the object.
I was in my backyard looking southeast of Oakhurst, GA. looking up at the beautiful rain clouds when I spotted the object. It caught my eye because it stood out as something obviously anomalous.

GA, US

First object seen was a flash of light, then it started to move but looked like a star, then it flashed again while moving up and disappeared. Second object seen was flashing white randomly while remaining stationary, a second object flashed near but flash was not as bright. Then a glowing white object flew over my house, but was high in the sky. Then we got scared and ran inside.

AZ, US

I was outside just looking at stars. A red glow caught my attention. Standing still looking thru trees using branches as marker I saw they were moving. No wind or breeze. Then I saw thy went in erratic directions and move 5-10 degrees with north being the origin and shifting 15 degrees to the west. When airplane closer to ground appeared under the red & altering white light the closest light would erratically move. Circle, oval, straight line and fast. When the one light was moving the other 4 were stationary. My wife saw same thing. I was interested and watched for 1-1/2 hr. My wife only watched 15 munites. I gave up about 1:45 to go in and get ready for bed. No structured shape was evident. They were orange/red for 75% of the time the remainder they were more yellow. No wind tonight. This allowed me to use tree branches as marks to verify they were moving. Lightening bugs were out but their light god on and off. The 5 objects never stopped glowing one of the colors.

MI, US

I’d found some reports in Portugal (in UFO Portugal Blog) and in the UK (in UK UFO Sightings website) from the past few days, as well.

The Daily Mail published today an article saying that, according to a leading physicist, we’ll probably have a close encounter with aliens this century.

At least, this is a scientific prediction.

The same physicists warns that this is a matter for governments, who should prepare their citizens for our first extraterrestrial encounter now, rather than Hollywood.

So, how well prepared do you think we are?
